The 2026 General Primary Election is taking place in McLean County on March 17, with voters able to cast ballots at their designated polling places or at one of two Vote Centers. The Vote Centers for this election are located at the McLean County Government Center and the Bone Student Center on the Illinois State University campus.

This election is significant for residents as it determines candidates who will appear on the general election ballot later in the year. Polling places and Vote Centers are open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and anyone in line when polls close will be allowed to vote. Unofficial results will be posted after polls close, according to information released by county officials.

Voters unsure of their polling location can use an online Polling Places Locator tool provided by the county. It is also noted that McLean County has two separate election authorities: the McLean County Clerk’s Office manages elections for most of the county, while voting within the City of Bloomington is overseen by the Bloomington Election Commission.

In addition to election activities, recent data show that McLean County had an average student-to-teacher ratio of 14-to-1 during the 2022-23 school year, with a total enrollment of 22,663 students and 1,628 full-time faculty members across its schools according to state education records. Teacher absenteeism was recorded at 29.7% in McLean County schools during that period, which is lower than Illinois’ statewide average of 35.6% as reported by state sources.

Among local schools, Normal Community High School had the highest number of white students enrolled with a total of 1,235 according to state data. Bloomington High School led in several categories: it had the highest enrollment of multiracial students (146), Hispanic students (251), and Black students (325) among all schools in McLean County during the same academic year state records show.

As voters participate in today’s primary election, these educational statistics provide additional context about community demographics and trends.
