Illinois State graduate student Boden Skunberg has been recognized as the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Newcomer of the Week, according to an announcement from the conference office.
Skunberg’s performance over two nationally televised games contributed to Illinois State Redbirds’ victories. He averaged 14.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, making 59 percent of his field goals (10-of-17) and hitting 55 percent from three-point range (6-of-11).
Throughout this season, Skunberg has appeared in 30 games, starting in 29. He is averaging 10.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, along with a total of 40 assists. His shooting statistics include a field goal percentage of 47 percent, a three-point percentage of 43 percent, and a free throw percentage of 72 percent.
The Redbirds secured wins against Northern Iowa (71-69) and Belmont (81-74), which moved them into the third seed for the upcoming MVC Tournament. The team will play either Northern Iowa or Evansville on Friday evening at 8:30 p.m. in the tournament quarterfinals.
