FOIA Request to City of Pontiac Regarding Newly Registered Businesses on May 7, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local government affairs, McLean County Times has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Pontiac. We are seeking access to records detailing newly registered businesses within the city from the previous week. The requested information includes critical details such as Business Name, Business Number, Business Type, Business Address, Issued Date, Status, and Registered Agent Name.

This request is made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, with a preference for receiving the data in electronic format. Our objective is to ensure that public institutions remain accountable and transparent to the community they serve. As members of the media dedicated to informing the public and fostering an informed electorate, we have also requested a fee waiver based on our role in disseminating this important information.

Furthermore, we are affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy—a non-profit organization that aids media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. This collaboration aims to enhance public understanding by shedding light on government actions.

We look forward to receiving these records promptly and will continue our efforts to provide comprehensive news coverage that holds public institutions accountable.
