Sophomore Gigi Zera of the Illinois Wesleyan University women’s golf team was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin’s Golfer of the Week, according to an April 1 announcement from the organization. This marks the third time in her collegiate career that Zera has received this weekly honor.
The recognition comes after Zera led her team during their first two tournaments of the spring season in Arizona. At the Westbrook Invitational held March 7-8, she finished tied for tenth place with rounds of five-over 76 and one-over 72. The following week at the SMSU Classic on March 16-17, Zera earned her first individual tournament win with a career-best total score of five-over 145 over two rounds. She recorded a personal best single round score of even-par 70 before finishing with a second-round five-over 75 to secure both her victory and help lead Illinois Wesleyan to its third team win this season.
