Sophomore Grace Fagan of the Illinois Wesleyan University women’s golf team was named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Golfer of the Week for a second straight time, according to an April 22 announcement from the league office. This marks Fagan’s third career award and is the seventh time a Titan has earned this recognition during the current season.
The honor comes after Fagan helped lead her team to a third-place finish at the UW-Whitewater Spring Invite held April 17-18. Despite severe weather that forced play to be shortened to just 18 holes, Fagan finished second overall with a one-over-par score of 73, including three birdies in cold and windy conditions. She narrowly missed first place by one stroke behind UW-Stout’s Julia Imai, whom she had outperformed at the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling earlier in April.
The Titans have now swept all Golfer of the Week awards for this spring season. The team competes in intercollegiate athletics at the NCAA Division III level according to their official website. They also participate in events within the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship according to their official website.
Illinois Wesleyan utilizes Ironwood Golf Course and Weibring Golf Course in Normal, Illinois, as venues for their competitions according to their official website. The program operates as a collegiate athletic program representing Illinois Wesleyan University according to their official website.
By winning their conference tournament last October, Illinois Wesleyan secured an automatic bid to compete at the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship scheduled for May 19-22 at Desert Willow in Palm Desert, California. The team’s continued success throughout both fall and spring seasons highlights its consistency within conference play.
