There have been 264,210 confirmed coronavirus cases in Illinois as of September 15, with 8,332 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (75,594 cases) and Cook County (60,096 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 2,919, while Cook County recorded 2,218 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 4,810,827, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 53,011 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 123,835 were male and 135,272 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,487, while female deaths stood at 3,845.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,888 Asians, 3,888 whites, 2,187 African-Americans, 1,682 Hispanics, and 199 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
