The Illinois State track and field team concluded its participation in the NCAA West First Round on Thursday evening in College Station, Texas. Five athletes represented the Redbirds during the event.

Freshman Victor Byaundaombe participated in the men’s triple jump, achieving a mark of 14.94 meters (49-1). Although this effort did not qualify him for the national title meet, Byaundaombe, who is the 2025 MVC Outdoor Triple Jump Champion, will focus on preparing for the 2025 U20 USATF Outdoor Championships starting June 19.

The men’s 4x400m relay team, consisting of Zach Paul, Enyinnaya Nwagwu Jr., Jake Welch, and Evan Watson, completed their race with a time of 3:07.67. This marks the end of their season after they recorded the second-fastest time in Redbird history at the recent 2025 MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Looking ahead to Saturday, Senior Corrina Courser will compete in the women’s 100m hurdles at 6:15 p.m., aiming to secure her place in Eugene. Courser will be running in heat three as the sole representative for Illinois State.
