Illinois State men’s tennis edged by Quinnipiac in close match

The Illinois State men’s tennis team began its East Coast trip with a narrow 4-3 loss to Quinnipiac in North Haven, Connecticut, on Friday. The Redbirds (3-5) took an early lead by securing the doubles point after victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Adrian Dibildox and Christian Capacci won their match against Carlos Braun Simo and Alessandro Sciacca, 6-3, while Tin Ostro and Caden Scarlett defeated Finn Burridge and Vishal Prakash, 6-2.

Quinnipiac (1-4) responded by winning four of six singles matches to clinch the overall victory. Capacci delivered a win for Illinois State at No. 2 singles over Burridge, 6-1, 6-4. Ostro added another point for the Redbirds with a three-set win at No. 3 singles against Prakash, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.

The Bobcats claimed straight-set wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles. At the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, Quinnipiac secured both matches in three sets to complete their comeback.

Illinois State will continue its weekend road series with matches against Wagner on Saturday and St. Joseph’s on Sunday.
