Please join us at the upcoming Senior Expo in Pontiac on Wednesday, August 6. The event will take place at the Pontiac Parks and Recreation Center from 9 a.m. to noon. Admission and refreshments are free, and free screenings will be available.

Additionally, donations are being collected for the Salvation Army to assist those in need. Items such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, deodorant (for men and women), men’s razors, hair brushes/combs, tampons, maxi pads, bottled water, cereals, pasta (spaghetti or other noodles), jelly, and Liquid IV or similar hydration packets can be dropped off at the Pontiac District Office.

The SAFE-T Act has been criticized for allowing suspects to be released because their alleged crimes are not on the list of detainable offenses. “We shouldn’t have to rely on the federal government to get justice for victims in Illinois,” stated a spokesperson.

Governor JB Pritzker’s stance on legislative maps has been questioned after he signed into law what is described as highly gerrymandered maps. “Actions speak louder than words,” commented a representative.

House Republicans have introduced 41 bills aimed at improving public safety in Illinois. Representatives Dennis Tipsword Jr., John Cabello, and Patrick Sheehan are among those advocating for these measures.

Adient plans to establish a facility in Normal with support from the REV Illinois program. This investment aims to create 75 new full-time jobs by assembling seat components for Rivian products.

Residents should be cautious of scam text messages claiming to be from the Illinois DMV. Official texts only remind residents about appointments.

The Illinois State Police recently graduated its largest cadet class in 25 years. The new troopers will join all ten regional locations of the ISP after completing their training programs.

The “Invest in Kids” program provided scholarship opportunities until it expired in 2022-2023. A recent federal law offers a chance for similar initiatives through tax incentives if states opt-in.
