Illinois State Representative Jason Bunting urged drivers on April 21 to use extra caution in work zones as construction season begins and National Work Zone Awareness Week is observed.
The reminder comes as roadwork increases across the state, raising safety concerns for both workers and motorists. Bunting said, “Please use extra caution, stay focused on the road, and SLOW DOWN in work zones so everyone—workers and drivers alike—can make it home safely at the end of the day.”
Bunting recounted his own recent experience driving to Springfield through several construction areas, highlighting the importance of driver attentiveness during this period. He emphasized that safe actions are crucial for preventing accidents: “Remember: Safe actions save lives.”
Bunting was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 as a Republican representing the state’s 106th House District, succeeding former representative Thomas Bennett according to available information.
National Work Zone Awareness Week serves as an annual reminder for drivers to prioritize safety measures such as reducing speed and minimizing distractions while passing through construction sites.
