Illinois State Representative Jason Bunting welcomed students to the Capitol on Mar. 24 as part of National Agriculture Day and Agriculture Legislative Day.
The event brought together young people wearing blue and gold jackets, along with some in green and white, to discuss agricultural legislation with lawmakers. This gathering is seen as an opportunity for students to engage directly with their representatives about issues affecting agriculture in the state.
“It was great to see so many blue and gold jackets (with a few green and white sprinkled into the mix) at the Capitol today for National Agriculture Day and Agriculture Legislative Day! Thank you to all the students who came to the Capitol and spent time with us discussing Ag legislation,” Bunting said.
Bunting, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 to represent the state’s 106th House District, replacing previous state representative Thomas Bennett according to Ballotpedia.
Events like these provide students a platform to learn about legislative processes while sharing their perspectives on agriculture policy. Lawmakers say such interactions help inform their decisions on issues important to future generations.
