Illinois State University’s soccer team secured a 1-0 victory over UT Martin on Sunday at Skyhawk Soccer Field in Martin, Tennessee. The match remained scoreless through the first half, with Illinois State outshooting UT Martin 13-4. This marks the second consecutive game in which Illinois State recorded double-digit shots in the opening half.

The decisive moment came in the 77th minute when senior Sophia Skoubis assisted freshman Rylann Law for the only goal of the match. According to Illinois State, “Skoubis’ assist marks the first of her career and first in Illinois State colors.”

With this result, Illinois State has now achieved back-to-back shutout wins under head coach Raleigh DeRose. The program noted, “Sunday’s shutout is also the first back-to-back shutout since the 2020-21 season for Illinois State.”

The Redbirds took 19 shots during Sunday’s contest, marking consecutive games with at least 19 or more shots for the first time under DeRose and for the first time since 2022.

This win gives Illinois State a 1-0 lead in its series with UT Martin after their inaugural meeting.
