Illinois State University hosted the first day of the Joyce Morton-Kief Invite at the Redbird Track & Field Complex on March 27, where athletes competed in the hammer throw to begin the meet.
The event is significant for Illinois State Redbirds as it showcases their competitiveness and supports recruitment efforts, according to the official website. The Redbird women currently lead their team race with 13 points, while the men are in second place with 14 points after Friday’s events.
Junior Adi Scott won the women’s hammer throw with a mark of 50.67 meters in her return after redshirting during indoor season. Sophomore Morgan Foes achieved a personal best and placed sixth at 47.54 meters, followed by sophomore Brianna Brodie in ninth place (45.79 meters) and freshman Hannah Gibson rounding out the top ten (45.34 meters), both also earning personal records.
On the men’s side, junior Isaias Lopez finished second with a personal record of 57.03 meters, while junior Cole Stevens took third place at 56.81 meters.
