Illinois State University’s women’s tennis team will return to competition on Wednesday after a 10-day break. The Redbirds are set to face Butler at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, with play beginning at 12:30 p.m. The match was initially scheduled for January 25 but was postponed due to severe weather.
Illinois State, holding a 4-2 record, enters the contest on a four-match winning streak. Recent victories include road wins over Milwaukee and Chicago State earlier this month. Senior Silvia Pomarolli has played a key role, going undefeated at the No. 2 singles position during those matches. Against Milwaukee, Pomarolli secured a three-set win over Nadiia Konieva, followed by another three-set victory against Camila Sanchez of Chicago State. She has now won five consecutive singles matches and holds a 6-1 record for the spring season.
The Redbirds’ top doubles pair, Lana Caculovic and Silvia Pomarolli, contributed significantly by clinching the deciding doubles match against Milwaukee in a tiebreaker, helping secure the overall team win. They have achieved a 3-1 record as partners this spring.
Butler arrives with a 3-7 record and is looking to recover from three straight losses to Ball State, Eastern Michigan, and Miami (Ohio). In their last outing against Miami, Sophie Parr earned Butler’s only point with a straight-set win at No. 3 singles in an overall defeat. Butler’s most recent victory came on February 4 against Indianapolis.
