The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team won its first series of the season with a 7-2 victory over the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh on March 22 at Horenberger Field in Bloomington. The Titans improved their record to 3-12, while the Titans from Oshkosh fell to 4-6.
This win marks an important step for Illinois Wesleyan as it seeks to build momentum after a slow start. The game featured strong pitching performances and timely hitting that allowed IWU to take control late in the contest.
Senior Marshall Ingold started for Illinois Wesleyan and pitched four innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out three batters. Both runs came in the first inning, but Ingold settled down afterward. Sophomore Brennan Tomhave took over from there, throwing five scoreless innings and giving up just one hit while striking out seven—a new career high for him. Together, Ingold and Tomhave combined for eight consecutive scoreless innings after giving up early runs.
Offensively, sophomore Ben Ford recorded his second career four-hit game and drove in two runs. Senior Jack Flagg contributed with two hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs. Key moments included a three-run seventh inning that broke open what had been a close contest through six frames.
After playing at home, Illinois Wesleyan will travel on March 22 to face No. 23 Millikin University in its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opener at Workman Family Baseball Field.
