The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team will start its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin schedule against Millikin University on March 23. The game is set for a 6 p.m. first pitch at Workman Family Baseball Field.
This matchup marks the Titans’ transition from non-conference games, after completing their first 15 contests with a record of 3-12. Most recently, Illinois Wesleyan won two out of three games in its home series against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, securing its first series win this season.
Millikin enters the midweek contest with a record of 15-4 after splitting a doubleheader with Wheaton College. Historically, Illinois Wesleyan has had success in this matchup, winning 83 out of the last 124 meetings since 1988. Head coach Michael Kellar holds a perfect record against Millikin at 3-0, including a sweep in the previous season that ended Millikin’s campaign in the conference tournament.
Sophomore Ben Ford leads Illinois Wesleyan’s offense with a .361 batting average and has recorded hits in seven consecutive games. Other key contributors include sophomores Matt Hudik and AJ Weller as well as junior John Philip Ferraro and senior Jack Flagg, who have added depth to the lineup through consistent hitting and extra-base power.
On the mound, sophomore Brennan Tomhave delivered his best performance over the weekend by pitching five innings and striking out seven batters. Senior Will Davidsmeier currently leads Titans pitchers with an earned run average of 5.06 across more than twenty innings pitched this year.
The Titans are scheduled to take on Millikin at Workman Family Baseball Field at 6 p.m., with live statistics and streaming available for fans.
