Illinois Wesleyan University’s men’s golf team has gained a significant lead following the first round at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship. Competing at the WeaverRidge Golf Club, the team scored a total of 280, taking an eight-stroke lead over their nearest competitors.

Seniors Griffin Pohl and Quinn Clifford led the charge for the school, both scoring below par. Pohl shot a five-under 67, placing him at the top of the leaderboard, while Clifford is trailing closely behind in second place with a score of 69, three-under par.

Junior Juney Bai also contributed to the team’s strong performance with a one-under 71, positioning him sixth on the leaderboard.

Illinois Wesleyan’s score of 280 puts them ahead of Millikin and Wheaton, which finished with team scores of 288 and 297, respectively. North Central and Augustana round up the top five.

The second round of the championship is scheduled to commence at 8:30 a.m. on May 2, with Illinois Wesleyan teeing off at 10:10 a.m.
