The Illinois Wesleyan University men’s volleyball team was ranked in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll for the first time in program history, according to a March 17 announcement by the organization. The Titans were placed at No. 20 after achieving an overall record of 17-4.
This recognition marks a milestone for the team, which competes at the NCAA Division III level and is part of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, according to the official website. The team’s recent reverse sweep victory over Augustana College on March 11 improved its conference record to 5-1, keeping Illinois Wesleyan in second place at the midpoint of the season.
Illinois Wesleyan is one of three teams from its conference featured in this week’s national poll. Carthage College leads at No. 1, while Loras College holds the No. 14 spot. The Titans have recorded wins against Loras and Milwaukee School of Engineering (ranked No. 18), but have lost matches to Carthage and Aurora University (ranked ninth). The team is aiming for its first appearance in the four-team CCIW Tournament this season.
Brandon Mueller serves as head coach for Illinois Wesleyan men’s volleyball, which features student-athletes from all undergraduate class years and competes in intercollegiate athletics, according to the official website. Home matches are held at Shirk Center in Bloomington, Illinois.
The Titans are scheduled to return to action on Friday, March 20, facing St. Norbert College at Shirk Center with play beginning at 2:30 p.m.
