Illinois Wesleyan men’s volleyball prepares for conference matchup against No. 11 Loras

The Illinois Wesleyan University men’s volleyball team is set to play against No. 11 Loras College in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) match on Wednesday, March 4. The game will take place at the Lillis Athletic & Wellness Center with a scheduled start time of 7 p.m.

Illinois Wesleyan, currently holding a record of 14-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play, recently achieved its first-ever victory over North Central College in program history. The Titans secured the win in five sets on February 28. Sophomore Ethan Kuziela recorded his fourth triple-double of the season, finishing with a career-high 20 kills, 27 assists, and 12 digs. He also contributed five blocks and an ace during the match. This performance earned him his fourth CCIW Setter of the Week award this season on March 2.

Junior Brenden Reutter led Illinois Wesleyan with 32 assists against North Central, while sophomore Ben Zima had a team-best 13 digs. Sophomore Wilson Spaulding matched Kuziela for most blocks in the match with five.

Nationally, Illinois Wesleyan leads Division III in kills per set with an average of 13.61. Freshman Aydin Provost leads the team with 216 kills (3.38 per set), followed by Bryce Williams with 162 kills (2.96 per set). Kuziela has contributed significantly both offensively and defensively; he ranks second on the team in digs (128) and leads in aces (18). Provost and Williams each have recorded 17 aces this season.

The Titans also top Division III rankings for assists per set at an average of 12.49. Kuziela leads the squad with 452 assists (6.85 per set), while Reutter has accumulated 245 assists (4.45 per set). Reutter is approaching a milestone of reaching 1,000 career assists; he enters Wednesday’s match at 906.

On defense, Zima leads Illinois Wesleyan with 184 digs (2.79 per set), ranking him among national leaders at his position. Freshman Dylan Quinn holds the team lead in blocks with 43 this season.

Illinois Wesleyan will face Loras for the eleventh time; Loras has won all previous meetings between these teams. In their last encounter on April 5, 2025, Illinois Wesleyan lost in straight sets despite contributions from Vince DiCosola and Lane Sunley.

Loras comes into Wednesday’s contest after losing to No.3 Carthage College on February 28.

Illinois Wesleyan Titans Men’s Volleyball competes at the NCAA Division III level as part of intercollegiate athletics within the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. The program features student-athletes from all undergraduate class years and is led by head coach Brandon Mueller (official website).
