The Illinois Wesleyan University men’s wrestling team is set to compete at the NCAA Regionals in Dubuque, Iowa, on February 27 and 28. The event will be hosted by Loras College, with the first matches beginning at 10 a.m.
The Titans recently participated in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships on February 14. Freshman Tyson Zvonar led the team with a third-place finish at 133 pounds, earning all-conference honors. His performance also secured him a place in the National Wrestling Coaches Association’s regional rankings released on February 20, where he is ranked eighth in Region VI. Junior heavyweight Alexander Jackson finished fourth, narrowly missing out on a podium spot. Freshmen Trey Dunning and Brady Mouser also placed for Illinois Wesleyan at 197 and 125 pounds.
Last season at regionals, Illinois Wesleyan recorded four wins, including a pin from then-sophomore Austin Johnston at 141 pounds. Johnston currently has a season record of 15-5 and holds an overall career mark of 49–33. He is ranked sixth in Region VI by the NWCA and could reach his 50th career win during this weekend’s competition.
Other team members scheduled to compete include sophomore Ameer Alamawi at 149 pounds, freshman Silas Oberholtzer at 157 pounds, sophomore Evan Carel at 165 pounds, freshman Eli Moore at 174 pounds, and sophomore Lucas Blanton at 184 pounds.
Illinois Wesleyan Titans Men’s Wrestling competes as part of NCAA Division III within the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (official website).
