The Illinois Wesleyan University men’s volleyball team was recognized on March 30 as three of its players swept the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Player of the Week awards. Sophomore Ethan Kuziela, junior Brenden Reutter, and Gavin Rohlwing received honors for hitter, setter, and defensive player of the week respectively.
This achievement highlights a significant milestone for Illinois Wesleyan’s program, which is competing in its first-ever 20-win season. The team participates at the NCAA Division III level according to the official website. The Titans are also part of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, as reported by the official website.
Kuziela earned his sixth weekly honor this year—previously receiving five as Setter of the Week—after totaling 37 kills with a .431 attack percentage during matches played between March 25-28. He also contributed with assists, digs, blocks, and aces across two key victories: a sweep over Loras College and a comeback win against North Central College. Reutter became only the second Titan in program history to surpass 1,000 career assists while recording strong performances that included a career-high number of assists in one match. Rohlwing led defensively with an average of over two blocks per set and maintained high efficiency in attacks.
These individual efforts helped secure not only wins but also hosting rights for an upcoming tournament semifinal scheduled for April 8—the first time Illinois Wesleyan has reached this stage in league play. Home matches are held at Shirk Center in Bloomington, Illinois according to information from their official website.
The team features student-athletes from all undergraduate class years under head coach Brandon Mueller’s leadership according to their official site. As members of intercollegiate athletics competition within their conference structure they continue to build on recent successes.
Looking ahead, Illinois Wesleyan will travel to North Park University for another conference matchup scheduled for April 1 at 7 p.m., continuing what has already been described as a historic season.
