Illinois Wesleyan sets records ahead of CCIW track championships

The Illinois Wesleyan University men’s and women’s track and field teams achieved 25 career-best performances at the Friday Night Tri event held on February 20 at the Shirk Center in Bloomington, Illinois. The Titans secured 14 event victories in their final competition before the upcoming College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Championships.

Junior Imani Ogunribido set a new indoor program record in the women’s triple jump with a mark of 12.63 meters. This result places her first nationally among Division III athletes by more than two feet and eighth all-time in Division III history. Freshman Tori Brown also posted a personal best in the triple jump with an 11.69-meter effort, which ranks within the top-15 marks nationally.

Sophomore Nyamedze Maison broke the seven-second barrier for the first time in his career in the men’s 60-meter dash, finishing at 6.99 seconds to move into fifth place on Illinois Wesleyan’s all-time list.

Sophomore Kelsey Moore won the women’s 60-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 9.54 seconds. In distance events, senior Brooke Nazos led the women’s mile with a finish of 5:27.77, while sophomore Jacob Pinkston claimed victory in the men’s 800 meters at 1:57.32.

Senior Jordynn Griffin finished first in the women’s 400 meters with a time of exactly one minute. The Titans swept both men’s and women’s 200-meter races: sophomore Caroline Hill recorded a personal best of 26.16 seconds, and junior Reece Dusek won his race at 22.66 seconds. Senior Abby Quinn also achieved a personal best to win the women’s 3000 meters with a time of 11:01.06.

Ogunribido added another win in the women’s long jump with a leap of 5.50 meters, while junior captain Carson Green took first place in the men’s long jump at 6.77 meters. Sophomore Cody Westerman won the men’s triple jump with a personal-best mark of 13.23 meters.

Senior Isaac Whitaker cleared 4.50 meters to win the men’s pole vault, and freshman Gwendolyn Boettinger continued her strong season by winning the women’s high jump at a height of 1.63 meters.

The Titans will host next weekend’s CCIW Championships at their home facility, starting Friday, February 27 at 11 a.m.

Illinois Wesleyan hosts its indoor track and field events at Shirk Center Indoor Track, which is dedicated to track and field competitions according to their official website.
