The Illinois Wesleyan University softball team split a doubleheader against Millsaps College on March 18, winning the first game 6-4 before falling in the second game 5-3. The Titans, who now hold a record of 5-7, came from behind to secure the opening victory but could not overcome an early deficit in the nightcap.
This matchup is part of the team’s ongoing season at the NCAA Division III level, where they compete as members of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, according to the official website. The program operates out of Bloomington, Illinois and hosts its home games at Inspiration Field.
In game one, three consecutive doubles in the second inning helped Illinois Wesleyan take an early lead. Senior Casey Wissmiller started with a double, followed by sophomore Jillian Bollard and junior Annika Brown contributing key hits to put the Titans ahead. Millsaps responded but IWU extended their advantage with timely hitting from freshman Isabella Boskey and sophomore Ella Hermes. Senior Anna Beckman delivered a crucial run-scoring single in the seventh inning before Wissmiller added an insurance run. Junior Mallory Holland secured the win in relief, moving her record to 3-3 for the season.
The second game saw Millsaps capitalize on early opportunities, scoring three runs in the first inning through a combination of hits and walks. Despite a late rally sparked by Beckman’s leadoff triple and RBIs from Wissmiller, Boskey, Claire Post, and Bella Pinter, IWU could not close the gap. Senior Caroline Gatchell pitched over six innings in relief for Illinois Wesleyan but took the loss alongside sophomore Maddie Pool.
The Titans will return home for their next contest on March 25 with a doubleheader against Monmouth College at Inspiration Field. The team continues its participation in intercollegiate athletics as part of NCAA Division III and remains active within its conference structure according to information provided by their official website.
