The Illinois Wesleyan University softball team will continue its spring break trip with doubleheaders against No. 23 Belhaven University and Millsaps College on March 17-18, according to a March 16 announcement. The Titans are scheduled to play Belhaven on Tuesday at 4 p.m., followed by two games at Millsaps on Wednesday.
These matchups are significant as the Titans look to improve their season record of 3-5 after splitting games with Mississippi University for Women. The team competes at the NCAA Division III level, according to the official website. Assistant coach Nikki Miller will return to her home state during this stretch of games.
Sophomores Grace Wilkens and Riley McDoniel currently lead the Illinois Wesleyan offense, each holding a .333 batting average. Wilkens has recorded eight hits this season, while McDoniel leads in doubles, total bases, and runs batted in. Senior Anna Beckman has six stolen bases so far, with Wilkens following closely behind. In pitching, senior Gianna Certa has made three appearances with a 2-1 record and an earned run average of 1.84 over 19 innings.
Belhaven enters Tuesday’s game with a nine-game win streak and a season record of 15-6. Millsaps holds a record of 13-4 after sweeping Lyon College in its last outing. Historically, Illinois Wesleyan is seeking its first win over Belhaven after two previous losses but holds one victory against Millsaps from their only prior meeting in Florida during the 2019 season.
The Titans host their home games at Inspiration Field in Bloomington, Illinois, according to the official website. The program is part of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin and participates in intercollegiate athletics as part of NCAA Division III competition, as reported by the official website.
The final four games of Illinois Wesleyan’s trip begin Tuesday at Belhaven. Fans can find links to live stats and streams on the team’s schedule page.
