The Illinois Wesleyan University men’s and women’s track and field teams recorded four event victories and 16 top-three finishes at the Huntsman Family Invitational hosted by Wabash College on April 4. The meet took place in Crawfordsville, Indiana, where athletes competed through rainy conditions.
This event highlights the ongoing achievements of the Illinois Wesleyan Titans, who participate in intercollegiate athletics as part of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin at the NCAA Division III level, according to the official website. Junior Mackenzie Huber won the women’s 400-meter race with a time of 58.21 seconds, finishing more than six seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Freshman Summer Clark claimed her first career victory in the women’s high jump by clearing 1.51 meters. The men’s team also saw success in relays: Joe Freedman, Vincent Enoch, Cameron Rask, and Amir Byrd teamed up to win the men’s 4×100 meter relay with a time of 42.80 seconds; Carson Green, Noah Sadowski, Alex Maas, and Dylan Hodges secured first place in the men’s 4×400 meter relay at 3:21.14.
Other notable performances included runner-up finishes by Brooke Nazos in the women’s steeplechase (12:11.11), Zach Marquardt in the men’s steeplechase (9:56.84), Seth Hamerski in the men’s 1500 meters (4:05.44), Sarah Polley in women’s long jump (4.91m), Mallory Short in women’s 400 meters (1:04.33), Corrina Fassino in women’s hurdles (1:07.51), Caroline Hill third place finish for women’s 200 meters (26.12) among others.
The Titans’ men’s track and field program is based in Bloomington, Illinois according to their official website; they host indoor events at Shirk Center Indoor Track—a facility dedicated to track and field—and recently placed second at their conference championships as reported by their official site (official website).
Looking ahead, Illinois Wesleyan will send groups to compete at several upcoming meets including Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California; Augustana Meet of Champions; and Indiana State University’s Gibson Invitational scheduled for April 16-18.
