The Illinois Wesleyan University women’s golf team announced on Mar. 27 that it will compete in the WashU Spring Invite, scheduled for March 29-30 at Crown Point Golf Course in Farmington, Missouri. The event marks a return to competition for the No. 23-ranked Titans after a weekend off.
The tournament is important as it brings together three nationally ranked teams, including No. 5 WashU and No. 20 Grinnell, providing an opportunity for the Titans to measure their progress against strong opponents ahead of postseason play.
Sophomore Gigi Zera recently secured her first career win at the SMSU Classic on March 16-17, recording personal bests with an even-par round of 70 and a two-day total of five-over-par (145). Zera currently holds the team’s lowest average score this season at 76.2 strokes per round. Juniors Emily Gastrau and Nora Cerroni follow closely with averages of 77.5 strokes each during the current campaign.
The Titans’ ‘A’ squad will feature Zera, Gastrau, Cerroni, sophomore Grace Fagan, and freshman Julia Henry. The ‘B’ squad includes senior Brooke Erhard; sophomores Breanna Brown and Caroline Carr; and freshmen Addison Krouse and Ashley Wells. Tee times are set to begin at noon on Sunday.
The Illinois Wesleyan Titans compete in intercollegiate athletics as part of NCAA Division III according to the official website. They participate in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship according to their official website and utilize facilities such as Ironwood Golf Course and Weibring Golf Course in Normal, Illinois according to official sources.
