The Illinois Wesleyan University women’s golf team was ranked No. 23 in Division III in the latest Women’s Golf Coaches Association Mizuno Coaches Poll, according to a March 20 announcement by the organization.
This ranking comes after a strong start to the spring season for the Titans, who have competed in two tournaments so far. Sophomore Gigi Zera has led the team, finishing tied for 10th at the Westbrook Invitational with rounds of five-over 76 and one-over 72. Zera also secured her first career win at the Southwest Minnesota State University Classic, topping a field that included mostly Division II teams.
At the SMSU Classic, Illinois Wesleyan began the second round trailing Nebraska Kearney by one stroke but rallied to tie atop the leaderboard with a two-day total of 603. The Titans won their third tournament title of the season by claiming victory on a tiebreaker with a second-round score of 304.
The Titans compete in intercollegiate athletics at the NCAA Division III level and participate in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, according to the official website. They utilize Ironwood Golf Course and Weibring Golf Course in Normal, Illinois, for their events and competitions as reported by their official website.
Illinois Wesleyan will return from two consecutive tournaments in Arizona to play at the WashU Spring Invite on March 29-30 at Crown Pointe Golf Club.
