The Illinois Wesleyan University women’s golf team won its third team title of the season at the Southwest Minnesota State University Classic, held March 17 at Wigwam Resort Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Arizona. The Titans finished with a two-day total of 603, tying Nebraska Kearney but securing the win through a tiebreaker based on their lower second round score. Sophomore Gigi Zera earned her first career individual victory.
This result highlights the team’s continued success during the season and marks an important milestone for Zera. The Titans compete in intercollegiate athletics at the NCAA Division III level and participate in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, according to the official website.
Zera’s performance included an eagle on her third hole of the final round, helping her maintain her lead. She finished with a five-over-par 75 in the final round after shooting an even-par 70 on day one, resulting in a career-best total of 145 for a one-shot victory. Grace Fagan recorded rounds of 75 and 76 to finish tied for tenth place, while Julia Henry placed eleventh with a two-day total of 152.
The Titans utilize Ironwood Golf Course and Weibring Golf Course in Normal, Illinois, for their events as part of their collegiate athletic program, according to the official website. Their next competition will be at the WashU Spring Invite on March 29-30 at Crown Pointe Golf Club in Farmington, Missouri.
