The Illinois Wesleyan University women’s lacrosse team will return home to play Hanover College in its final non-conference game of the season on Sunday, March 29. The match is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Tucci Stadium.
This game marks the end of a three-game road stretch for the Titans, who currently hold a record of 3-7 after a recent loss to the University of Chicago. In that game, sophomore Lillie Keeton led with two points, while other notable performances came from Sophie Shore and Sadie Newton in ground balls and draw controls respectively. Marli Brown made eight saves as goalkeeper.
Senior Anelise DiGiovanni leads the team offensively with 29 points this season, including a team-high 16 assists and 13 goals. Shore follows closely with 23 points and ranks third in both goals and assists on the roster. Maddie Gibson is third overall with an even split between goals and assists, while Keeton has contributed the second-most goals so far this year.
At draw control, Newton tops the squad with 56 draws won, followed by Sarah Riepe and Shore. The same trio also leads in ground balls and caused turnovers for Illinois Wesleyan. In goalkeeping duties, Brown has recorded a total of 76 saves across more than six games’ worth of minutes played; freshman Allison Vervyncky has added another 37 saves this season.
The upcoming contest against Hanover will be their first meeting in program history. The Panthers come into Sunday’s matchup following an 11-5 defeat to Elmhurst University earlier in the week.
