The Illinois Wesleyan University women’s lacrosse team is set to face the No. 20 ranked University of Chicago on Wednesday, March 25, according to a Mar. 24 announcement. The Titans (3-5) will travel to Amos Alonzo Stagg Field in Chicago for the match, which is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.

This matchup comes as Illinois Wesleyan looks to recover from a recent loss against Meredith College, where they were defeated 24-1. Sophomore Maddie Gibson scored the team’s only goal in that game, while Sophie Shore led with three caused turnovers and tied with Sarah Riepe for ground balls at two each. Marli Brown recorded eight saves in goal during her time on the field.

The Titans’ offense is currently led by senior Anelise DiGiovanni with 29 points and a team-high of 16 assists. Sadie Newton holds the lead in goals scored with sixteen and also leads in ground balls (30), caused turnovers (22), and draw controls (52). Lillie Keeton follows closely behind Newton with fourteen goals this season.

Brown has made sixty-eight saves over more than three hundred minutes played as goalkeeper this year, holding a .386 save percentage and a record of two wins and four losses. Freshman Allison Vervynck has also contributed thirty-six saves for Illinois Wesleyan during her appearances.

Illinois Wesleyan will be meeting Chicago for the ninth time but it will be their first encounter since UC left the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin after the 2024 season. In their last meeting on April 6, 2024, Chicago won by a score of twenty-six to two, moving ahead five games to three in their all-time series record against IWU.
