The Illinois Wesleyan University’s women’s lacrosse team faced a challenging game against Carroll University on Saturday. The Titans were unable to keep up, resulting in a 17-6 defeat in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin game played in Waukesha.

Senior Lizzie Rymarcsuk recorded 16 saves in the match while another senior, Mia Fiandaca, led the team in defensive efforts with six caused turnovers and four ground balls. Fiandaca also stood out on the offensive side, achieving a hat trick. Junior Avery Setzler contributed two goals, with Carleigh Fountain adding one more. Assists were made by juniors Anelise DiGiovanni, Sarah Riepe, and Fountain.

Carroll University took a commanding lead in the first quarter, scoring nine goals to Illinois Wesleyan’s one, which was a free position goal by Fiandaca—her 23rd goal of the season. Carroll extended their lead in the second period to double digits, though Illinois Wesleyan attempted to close the gap with another goal from Fiandaca and a successful shot by Setzler assisted by Riepe. The first half ended with a score of 12-3 in favor of Carroll.

In the remaining half, Illinois Wesleyan managed to net three more goals but could not overcome Carroll’s lead. The final score was 17-6.

Illinois Wesleyan will play their next game on Wednesday, April 16, against North Central College. This game will begin their series of three consecutive home games at Tucci Stadium.
