Illinois Wesleyan University’s track and field athletes delivered strong performances at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet in Allendale, Michigan on February 13. Senior Evan Lowder set a new College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) all-time indoor record in the 400-meter invitational, finishing second with a personal best of 47.56 seconds. This time ranks as the fifth-best in NCAA Division III this season. Lowder finished behind Seton Hill’s Jacy Willis, who posted a winning time of 47.09 seconds. He also recorded a season-best time of 21.92 seconds in the 200-meter invitational.
Junior Mackenzie Huber took first place in the women’s 800 meters, achieving a personal best of 2:12.37 and moving into seventh place nationally in Division III for that event. Huber finished just half a second ahead of her closest competitor.
Freshman Dylan Hodges placed eighth in the men’s open 400 meters with a time of 50.72 seconds.
In field events, senior Isaac Whitaker secured second place in the pole vault by clearing 4.67 meters. Freshman Gwendolyn Boettinger finished eighth in the women’s high jump invitational with a leap of 1.62 meters.
Another group from Illinois Wesleyan’s track and field teams is scheduled to compete at the Roger Haynes Invitational in Monmouth, Illinois on February 14.
The Illinois Wesleyan Titans Men’s Track and Field team hosts its indoor competitions at the Shirk Center Indoor Track, which is dedicated to track and field events according to their official website. The program is part of intercollegiate athletics at Illinois Wesleyan University and competes at the NCAA Division III level as a member of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (official website).
