Redshirt freshman Luke Teschke was named the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Newcomer of the Week on March 31 after his performance in Illinois State Redbirds’ baseball victory over Evansville. The MVC announced its sixth round of weekly awards Tuesday morning, recognizing Teschke for his contributions during Sunday’s series finale.
Teschke’s recognition highlights his recent achievements on the mound, where he recorded a career-high six strikeouts over five innings and limited Evansville to one run on two hits. In both of his last two starts, he has allowed just one run and two hits per game. The award underscores the ongoing success within Illinois State’s baseball program this season.
With this selection, six different Redbird players have earned weekly honors so far this year. Illinois State has had at least one player recognized in six out of the last seven MVC award cycles and for five consecutive weeks.
