Illinois Wesleyan University men’s basketball player Mason Funk has been recognized by the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) for his performance during the final week of the regular season. Funk, a junior from Normal, Illinois, received his second conference weekly award after leading the Titans to two road victories between February 18 and 21.
Funk’s efforts helped Illinois Wesleyan secure its 34th CCIW Regular Season Title. With teammate Noah Cleveland unavailable, Funk averaged 31 points per game over two contests and made 60 percent of his shots from the field. He also contributed eight rebounds, five blocks, two assists, and two steals per game as Illinois Wesleyan defeated North Park 76-71 and Augustana 75-56 to clinch the championship.
In the game against North Park on February 18, Funk scored 33 points on 14-of-22 shooting. He added eight rebounds, five blocks, two assists, and two steals. On February 21 at Augustana, he recorded 29 points on 10-of-18 shooting with similar numbers in other statistical categories.
With the regular season complete, Illinois Wesleyan will now focus on the CCIW Tournament. Quarterfinal games are scheduled for Tuesday evening. The Titans will host both semifinal and championship games at Shirk Center in Bloomington later in the week. Illinois Wesleyan is set to play in Friday’s semifinal at 7:30 p.m., while Carthage will compete in an earlier matchup at 5 p.m.
The Titans participate in intercollegiate athletics as part of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (official website).
