There have been 48,058 confirmed coronavirus cases in McLean County as of Feb. 9, with 274 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (551,095 cases) and Cook County (545,251 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 7,088, while Cook County recorded 6,597 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 52,372,521, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 666,089 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 1,387,627 were male and 1,549,936 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 17,307, while female deaths stood at 14,372.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 19,830 whites, 5,835 African-Americans, 4,479 Hispanics, 1,002 Asians, and 533 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
