Additionally, the wholesale tax on tobacco products has risen from 36% to 45%. Other proposed taxes, such as a $1.50 delivery tax on packages shipped to Illinois homes, were not approved but may be revisited later.
Rep. Bunting expressed his opposition: “I voted No.” He criticized the state government’s continued spending and taxation policies without addressing working families’ struggles.
In health news, Illinois confirmed its first human case of West Nile Virus for 2025. The patient was hospitalized due to complications from the infection. This marks the earliest reported case since 2016. West Nile Virus is transmitted through mosquito bites and poses significant risks to seniors and immunocompromised individuals.
The Department of Public Health advises residents to prevent mosquito breeding by repairing screens and eliminating standing water sources.
