City of Fairbury City Council met Aug. 7.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order.

2. Mayor Slagel directed theClerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Jon Kinate, Bruce Weber, Gerald Hoffman and Lynn Dameron. Bill Schmidgallwas absent

3. Pledge of Allegianceto the Flag

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda Motion by Kinate secondby Hoffmanto approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the July 17 council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Registerlistingthe bills

C. Treasurer’sCash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register secondmeeting of the month)

Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:

Dave Shepherdasked if he could set traps on his property to catch groundhogs

6. Reports of Departments

Street Superintendent/Fire Chief Steidinger no report

Sewer Superintendent Duncan reported

7th Street will not bepaved now; the county wants more compaction prior to paving

Vacuum pump in the lab went out so he purchase a new one

Water Superintendent Ifft was absent

Chief of Police McCormick reported

The new hires are in their first week of academy

Reissued uniforms and equipment that has accumulated over the years

PDC Weekend went well; no significant issues to report

Will work with Matt Curl from the speedway next summer on golf carts attending PDC

Another parttime officer has been hired

City SuperintendentAshburnwas absent

City Attorney Mann reported

He will draft gaming regulations to be considered by the Council

Alderman Norrisreported the pool will close for the season August 17th

Alderman Endres reported a burn hole in a screen at Marsh Park

Alderman Hoselton no report

Alderman Kinate no report

AldermanWeber reporteda constituent had a little mishap with the construction project; Opperman Construction paid to remedy the situation

Alderman Hoffman no report

Alderman Dameron no report

Alderman Schmidgallwas absent

A. Motion by Norris, second by Weber to approve Ordinance No. 2019 9 Amending Parts of Chapter 4 of the Municipal Code Book of the City of Fairbury, Illinois in Relation to Municipal Purchasing. Motion carried 7 0. YE Norris Ender Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Dameron

10 New Business Discussion/Action Items

A. Motion by Weber, second by Hoffman to approve a request for Brad Duncan and Logan Krippel to attend WEFTEC in Chicago from September 23 24 with one night of hotel accommodation in the amount of $420 plus tax. Motion carried 7 0. YE Norris Ender Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Dameron

B. Motion by Weber, second by Hoselton to approve a request from Craig and Connie Crutcher to block Locust Street between 4th& 5thStreets from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2019 for the 4thAnnual RIDE TO REMEMBER MEMORIAL RIDE; also requests a Police escort from the VFW to 1st& Oak Street when the ride begins at 10:30 a.m. Motion carried 7-0. YES Norris Ender Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Dameron 

C. Motion by Weber, second by Dameron to approve the hiring ofTyler Rafferty, Adam Schifferer and Andrew Mills as fulltime Police Officers and David Turnerand Graham Haleyas parttime Police Officer. Motion carried 7-0. YES Norris Ender Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Dameron 

D. Motion by Weber, second by Norris to approve the Morton Community Bank Commercial Credit Card Borrowing Resolutio , number 2019 7,adding Robert McCormick as a Visa card holder on the City of Fairbury credit card account. Motion carried 7-0. YES Norris Ender Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Dameron 

E. Consideration of a bid from Beni ch Constructionin the amount of $39,521.06for sealcoating FAILED FOR LACK OF A MOTION 

Motion by Kinate, second by Endres to approve a request for Mike Mellott and Bob Ziegenhorn to attend the 88thAnnual Illinois Potable Water Supply Operators Association Conference in Springfieldfrom September 1113 in the amount of $450 for registration and $238 plus tax for hotel accommodations. Motion carried 7-0. YES Norris Ender Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Dameron 

g. Motion by Weber, second by Hoffman to approve a request allowing a park name sign to be erected at Veteran’s Memorial Park similar to the Dominy Library. Motion carried 7-0. YES Norris Ender Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Dameron
