In Iowa City, the Illinois State men's golf team concluded their final preparations for the 2024 MVC Championship by tying for fourth place at the Hawkeye Invitational. The Redbirds achieved a three-round total of 846, marking it as one of the top scores in program history.
The Redbirds have recorded seven of their lowest tournament scores this season. They are set to compete in the MVC Championship next weekend at the Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach, Missouri.
Wisconsin claimed victory with a score of 840, while TCU and Southern Illinois tied for second with an 845. Illinois State's score matched Central Arkansas's, with other teams such as Iowa and Nebraska following closely.
Parker Wisdom had the best individual finish for ISU, tying for sixth place with a score of 208. "He opened with a pair of pars and a birdie," noted a report on his performance.
Felix van Dijk tied for ninth place with a score of 209. His final round included five birdies and two bogeys. Valentin Peugnet tied for 21st overall, finishing his rounds with notable consistency.
Newcomer TJ Barger ended up tied for 32nd overall with a final-round score of 70. Alex McCulla and Will Troy also contributed to the team's efforts, placing within the top ranks.
The Redbirds will look to build on this momentum as they head into their conference championship event.
