Illinois State University's men's basketball team has announced the addition of Boden Skunberg, a former standout from North Dakota State, for the 2024-25 season. Head coach Ryan Pedon expressed enthusiasm about Skunberg joining the Redbirds, noting his familiarity with Skunberg's game and praising his competitive nature.
"We are really excited about the addition of Boden Skunberg," said Pedon. "Having played against him this past season we were very familiar with his game and had great admiration from afar. We believe he is an elite competitor that will bring us a mixture of size, skill, and an ability to shoot the basketball."
Skunberg led North Dakota State in scoring last season with an average of 14.1 points per game. He also topped the team's rebounding stats with 168 rebounds and was second in assists with 66. His shooting percentages included 41% overall, 34% from three-point range, and 79% from free throws.
The guard earned All-Summit League Honorable Mention honors for two consecutive seasons (2022-23 and 2023-24). Over four seasons, he accumulated 1,142 career points across 114 games with 71 starts. In the recent season alone, he had six games where he scored over 20 points.
As a junior in the previous year, Skunberg averaged 15.1 points and recorded seven games scoring over 20 points each. His notable performances included a career-high of 30 points against Denver on February 11.
During his sophomore year, he averaged nearly six points per game with six double-digit scoring games. In high school at Jamestown, North Dakota, he was recognized as the Gatorade Player of the Year during his senior year.
Skunberg is set to be Illinois State's first transfer for next season alongside incoming freshmen Cade Norris and Jack Daugherty.
