Illinois State University's track and field athlete, Mathis Chavand, has been named the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Track Athlete of the Week. This recognition follows his record-breaking performance in California last weekend.
Chavand set a new school record in the 5,000-meter run at the Bryan Clay Invitational with a time of 13:48.14. This achievement surpassed the previous record of 13:49.99, which was established by Ryan Rutherford in 2014.
In addition to this accomplishment, Chavand recently won at the annual Redbird Challenge, where he achieved a personal best in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:47.52. This time is just shy of entering the program's top-10 list.
Looking ahead, Mathis Chavand and his team will participate in the LSU Alumni Gold meet and the Gibson Invitational this coming weekend.
