The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team is preparing to face Wheaton College on Wednesday, April 17, at Pfund Stadium in Wheaton, Illinois. The Titans enter the game with a record of 19-9 overall and an 8-3 standing in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). Meanwhile, Wheaton holds a 7-18 record for the season and has secured only one win in ten CCIW games.
Earlier this season, IWU defeated Wheaton in a closely contested match. The teams were tied in the ninth inning until Junior Will Duff from Western Springs, Illinois hit decisively to secure a 13-12 victory for the Titans.
The rivalry between IWU and Wheaton dates back to 1989 when IWU won 21-3. The Titans also maintained a winning streak against Wheaton with 19 consecutive victories from 2000 to 2006.
Senior Louis Perona from Chicago was named CCIW Player of the Week on Monday, April 15. This recognition marks his first career award after starting all five games last week. Perona ranks second in the CCIW for batting average at .394 and third for total hits with 39.
On the pitching side, sophomores Cole Shamhart from Oak Park and Will Davidsmeier from Virginia notched two wins each last week. Together they achieved a combined ERA of 1.50 with 14 strikeouts.
