Ty'Reek Coleman, Player | Illinois State Redbirds
Illinois State University's Ty'Reek Coleman has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week, according to an announcement from the conference office.
Coleman, a freshman guard, scored 27 points over two games as the Redbirds went 1-1 during the week. He tallied 24 points in the team's weekend finale against Cornell, marking the 21st-highest point total by a freshman in Illinois State history and the second-most in a home debut by a freshman since Emon Washington's 30-point game against NCAA Division III Greenville on December 2, 2020.
According to Illinois State, Coleman's performance against Cornell places him among only two freshmen nationwide this season to score at least 24 points in a game. Of those ten freshmen who have achieved this mark, only one other player did not represent a traditional power-conference school. Additionally, out of these players, only Caleb Wilson from North Carolina posted a higher field goal percentage than Coleman's six-for-eight shooting night.
The Redbirds are scheduled to play next on Friday afternoon against the USC Trojans. The game will tip off at 6:30 p.m. Central Time inside the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.
