Illinois State University football players Victor Dawson and Matt Maldonado have received weekly honors from the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) following their performances in a recent game against Indiana State. The Redbirds secured a 52-20 win on the road, marking one of their strongest games this season.

Running back Victor Dawson was named MVFC Newcomer of the Week. He surpassed 100 rushing yards for the second consecutive week, carrying the ball 21 times for a season-high 116 yards and scoring a touchdown. His efforts contributed to giving Illinois State an early lead in the second quarter. With this performance, Dawson now leads the team with 616 rushing yards this season.

Placekicker Matt Maldonado earned co-Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his role in the victory. This is his second time receiving this recognition during the current season. Maldonado scored ten points, including a 49-yard field goal late in the third quarter and successfully converted all seven extra-point attempts.

The conference also recognized other athletes: Bill Jackson from UNI (Offense), Donovan Woolen from North Dakota State (Defense), Aaron Bickerton from North Dakota State (co-Special Teams), and Jacob Arop (Offensive Lineman).

Illinois State, ranked No. 13/14 with a record of 7-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play, will next face South Dakota State in Brookings. The upcoming matchup is significant as both teams are vying for playoff positions.
