Watchdog group bemoans library's response to lease deal inquiry

The Atlanta, Illinois, Public Library District's response to questions from the Edgar County Watchdogs (ECW) about its lease agreement on a building owned by one of its trustees falls far short of acceptable, the ECW contends.

ECW co-founder John Kraft wrote on the group's Illinois Leaks website that his main problem with the library's response is its ongoing reliance on what he calls bad advice from attorney Phillip Lenzini, who provided a list of conditions that had to be met for the district to avoid conflicts of interest in the lease.

Kraft argued that the list was far from complete and the lease violated state law.

The district’s answers also reveal that it will not do an audit because it is not required nor put a building purchase decision on a ballot for voters to decide, again because it is not required to do so, Kraft wrote.
