Statewide test results: 59 percent of Lexington Junior failed English language arts

Scores10

About 41 percent of Lexington Junior High School students passed annual English language arts assessments in 2017 and 59 percent of students failed, according to a McLean County Times analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, is administered to third- through eighth-graders in Illinois, testing them in reading and math based on Common Core standards.

According to Lexington Junior High School English language scores, about 40 percent met expectations and 1 percent exceeded them. Students whose results are in either category are considered to be most ready to move on to the next level and are most prepared for college or work.

Another 27 percent approached expectations, while 26 percent partially met expectations and 6 percent did not meet them. Students who scored in these categories are not ready for the next level of schooling, according to the test.

Test results at Lexington Junior High School, which enrolled 104 students in 2017, surpassed state averages.

Statewide, 37 percent of students passed the test and 63 percent failed.

Of students statewide who passed, only five percent 'exceeded' expectations.
