John McGlasson Sr., Illinois GOP State Central Committeeman for the 16th Congressional District, is calling for Cook County GOP Chairman and Commissioner Sean Morrison to resign after recent revelations reported by the Chicago Sun-Times.
In 2014, before he was elected to serve as a commissioner, Morrison wrote a letter to a Cook County judge asking that Anthony Martin, an executive at his security company, be allowed to travel out of state, according to a June 18 Sun-Times report. At the time, Martin was facing criminal charges of using the internet to solicit a minor who he had met at a party hosted by Morrison.
The Cook County judge agreed; and 19 days after Morrison signed the letter, Martin was arrested in Colorado for allegedly using the internet to try to sexually exploit another child, the Sun-Times said.

"I am very disappointed that Mr. Morrison has again caused the Republican Party to be judged by something other than the beliefs expressed on our party's platform," McGlasson told the McLean County Times. "Any businessman can make a bad hire; but to not do everything possible to rectify the problem immediately indicates that profit came before principle."
McGlasson had strong words about Morrison's position and called into question his legitimacy for such a leadership role.
"He is in a position of leadership in the Republican Party of Illinois," McGlasson said. "As before when he stood by while someone with Nazi leanings (Arthur Jones) became our party's nominee for Congress, he has shown that he is not a leader and should resign."
Morrison is up for re-election as Cook County commissioner in the 17th District, but McGlasson thinks it's unlikely he'll win come November, given this latest scandal.
"I live outside of Cook County, but find it difficult to believe that Mr. Morrison could be re-elected with these clouds over his head," McGlasson said. "With that in mind, if he does care about Republican ideals, he should ask that his name be removed from the ballot and allow a replacement candidate to be named."
