Pontiac Township High School District 90 students suspended, expelled 110 times in a single school year

Pontiac Township High School District 90 reported three expulsions and 107 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 110 students during the year. That equates to 16.2 percent of the 677 students enrolled.

Students were expelled for two incidents with violence without physical injury and one incident with drugs.

Of the 50 in-school suspensions, 33 were given to boys and 17 were given to girls, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 46 incidents. There were three incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 26 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 57 out-of-school suspensions, 39 were given to boys and 18 were given to girls, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 40 incidents. There were 11 incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 25 incidents, students were suspended for 3-5 days.
