City of Bloomington Human Relations Commission met Sept. 12.

Here is the minutes provided by the Commission:

I. Call to Order – 5:04 pm

II. Roll Call of Attendance: Commissioner Cotinna Harris, Commissioner Kiran Konam, Commissioner Suresh Krishna, Commissioner Anthony Jones, Commissioner Gary McGinnis, Commissioner Rhonda Smith, HR Staff Liaison Michael Hurt.

a. Absent – None

III. Public Comment – No Public Comment

IV. Approval of Minutes:

a. Consideration of approving the minutes of the Human Relations Commission Regular Meetings on Tuesday, August 8, 2018.

Motion to approve – Commissioner Jones motioned to approve minutes of the Human Relations Commission Regular Meeting of Tuesday August 8, 2018. Seconded by Commissioner Konam. All yeas. The motion Carries

V. Agenda Items

VI. Old Business

a. Budget update on HRC and Community Development line items. For Commissioner McGinnis’ benefit, Commissioners explained that they have three main expenditures each year (Diversity Project, MLK Event and the Cultural Fest.) When discussing the limitations of the budget Commissioner Smith stated that the Mayor told her if the Commission set forth a more robust agenda, there is a possibility the budget could be increased.

a.The Town of Normal has yet to make a decision regarding their participation in the MLK Event. Tony will push them for an answer next week. However, the HRC will continue to move forward in planning for the MLK Event.

b.The handouts will be printed material will be printed by HR. A two- sided flier will be created for distribution at the Cultural Fest.

c.The HRC Survey-Individuals who complete the survey will be entered into a $100 cash drawing.

d.The Commissioners were provided with their red polo shirts

VII. New Business

a. Reminder that Commission activity report due to City Council in October.

b. Commissioner Konam asked that the Commission sponsor a table or seats at the

2018 YICU Service Awards Banquet. Tickets will be purchased from HRC budget. Commissioners were asked to please attend if a ticket was purchased on their behalf. Tickets are $25 or $250 for a table. Commissioner Krishna made a motion to purchase tickets for any Commissioner wanting to attend the event. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Konam. All in favor. Motion passed.
