City of Bloomington issued the following announcement on Oct. 3.
The City of Bloomington will recognize October as “National Community Planning Month” with a variety of activities including a Mayoral proclamation presented last month and a booth at the Downtown Bloomington Farmers Market on October 20. Children and families are invited to attend.
Established in 2006, National Community Planning Month is celebrated each October by communities across the country as a way to highlight the role of the planning community and the importance of good planning. The theme of this year’s National Community Planning Month, “housing as community infrastructure,” recognizes the economic and social equity benefits of safe and affordable housing for all residents.
“Planning is essential for our communities to maintain stability and to thrive,” explains City Planner Katie Simpson. “I’m excited that the City is recognizing the importance of National Community Planning Month, and I hope it brings attention to the hard work of everyone that participates in planning, especially those that serve on some of the City’s boards and commissions including the Historic Preservation Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, and others. We value the variety of perspectives and diverse opinions our commissioners bring to each discussion.”
“This is also a great opportunity to draw the community’s attention to the fact that they can be involved in the planning process,” says Assistant City Planner Izzy Rivera. “We have a lot of opportunities for the public to provide their input in the planning of their City.”
