City of Fairbury Planning Commission met January 9. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the commission:

The Planning Commission held a meeting at 12 Noon. Members present were Chairman Rick Wilson, Jeremy Leman, Tracy Taylor, Leroy McPherson, and Ron Schlipf. Also in attendance was Michael Blackwell and City Clerk, Nancy Widlacki as the Planning Commission Secretary.


Review of minutes from December 12, 2018: Motion by McPherson, second by Leman to approve. Motion carried unanimously.

Chairman Wilson opened the meeting with returning to the November, 2018, discussion regarding the benefits of buying locally. He provided the board members with a handout containing 13 bullet points of the benefits and 9 ways to promote the concept. After reviewing the benefits bullet points, Chairman Wilson asked the board members to bring their ideas to the next meeting on creating a slogan to encourage buying locally. The handout is attached to these minutes and will be permanently retained by the City.

Chairman Wilson transitioned to the promote bullet points and mentioned the Fairbury Area Chamber of Commerce is very agreeable in helping to promote buying locally. A lengthy discussion of brainstorming ensued about the promotional aspects.

A brief conversation turned to the state of disrepair the railroad crossings are in.

Motion by McPherson, second by Taylor to recommend the Mayor of the City of Fairbury and the City Council appoint Michael Blackwell as a member of the Planning Commission for a term of five (5) years. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by McPherson at 1 p.m., second by Taylor to adjourn. Motion carried unanimously.
